Club History

Mildura West Cricket Club has a rich history rooted in community spirit and a love for the game. Since its establishment, the club has been a cornerstone of local cricket, fostering generations of players and creating countless memories both on and off the field. With a tradition of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and excellence, the club continues to build on its proud legacy, celebrating past achievements while striving for future success.

1929-30

The earliest known records of the Club date back to the 1929-30 cricket season. It is thought that during this period the club was known as the Post Office Cricket Club.

1930

This name was later changed to the Mildura United Cricket Club and after amalgamating with the Mildura Cricket Club on the 21st August 1930, the club played as The Mildura Cricket Club.

1933

In these early years there were two controlling bodies of Mildura Cricket: "The Mildura Associated Cricket Clubs" and "The Mildura Cricket Association" which in 1933 changed to be known as M.D.C.A.

1939

The Club officially became known as "The Mildura West Cricket Club" on September 14th 1939.

The President of the day was Mr.H.F. Guthrie and the Secretary-Treasurer was Mr.H.G. Furze.

The Committee comprised of Messrs. F.C. Richardson, J.H. Wilson, J.A. Hurley and A.J.Spiller.

1946

The Honorary Auditor was Mr. C.D. Lanyon. Following The Second World War the club resurrected itself at the Annual General Meeting held at the Grand Hotel on August 11th 1946.

Mr. R.M. Linton was elected President and held this position with distinction for many years.

Over the next two decades or so, many important and progressive decisions were made and implemented by the club. Some of these decisions included allowing for extra grades of cricket and for Junior cricket and the drawing up and adoption of a Club Constitution.

Many of these matters were dealt with by Messrs. Geoff Harding, Mel Ziersch, Stan and Ray Giddings, Ross Telfer, Bruce Dean, Norm Tillett, Ken Wright, Les Innes and Ken Neville as well as many other enthusiastic and energetic club members.

1964

On Monday September 21st 1964 the first General Meeting of "The Sunraysia Cricket Association" was held at the Mildura Working Man's Club.

With this meeting came a new beginning to local cricket in Sunraysia and the commencement of a new chapter in the long and proud history of The Mildura West Cricket Club.
